- Do Shopify stores need a cookie consent banner?
- If your store has any visitors from the EU, UK, or California, yes. GDPR (Article 5(3)) requires opt-in consent before non-essential cookies are set, and CCPA/CPRA requires a clear opt-out for the sale or sharing of personal information. Shopify's stock storefronts don't include a compliant banner — you have to install one.
- Does Consentico work with Shopify Plus and headless / Hydrogen storefronts?
- Yes for Plus — the theme app extension works the same way. For Hydrogen and other headless storefronts, the banner is delivered via a small JS snippet you embed in your root component; Google Consent Mode v2 and script blocking still work end-to-end.
- Will the banner slow down my store?
- No measurable impact on Core Web Vitals. The banner script is roughly 18 KB gzipped and loads from the Shopify app proxy, so it benefits from Shopify's CDN. We've optimised for LCP and CLS — the banner reserves its space before paint and never causes layout shift.
- What's the difference between Consentico and CookieYes or Cookiebot?
- Consentico is built specifically for Shopify (theme app extension, Shopify Customer Privacy API sync, Shopify-native billing). CookieYes and Cookiebot are general-purpose CMPs adapted to Shopify via copy-paste snippets — they work, but require theme edits and don't natively integrate with the Shopify Privacy API. We're typically half the price for an equivalent feature set.
- Will I lose conversions by blocking trackers until consent?
- No, because Consentico ships with Google Consent Mode v2 enabled. When a visitor declines, GCM v2 sends cookieless pings so Google's modeling can still attribute conversions — you keep ~70–85% of attribution depending on traffic mix, instead of losing it all.
- What happens if I uninstall Consentico?
- All consent logs and shop data are deleted within 48 hours of uninstall, in line with Shopify's GDPR webhook requirements (shop/redact). The banner script is removed from your storefront automatically when the theme app embed is disabled.
